Ranga Reddy mandals haunted by prolonged dry spell

Persistent dry weather continues in Ranga Reddy district, with three more areas experiencing deficit rainfall. Balapur has been the only area on the list for the past five months, and now Maheshwaram, Shamshabad, and Abdullahpurmet have joined. Balapur has a rainfall deficit of 44.5% with 368.1 mm of rainfall compared to the normal 662.7 mm. Maheshwaram has a deficit of 22.1% with 493.9 mm of rainfall compared to the normal 634.4 mm. Shamshabad has a deficit of 29.1% with 502.2 mm of rainfall compared to the normal 708.5 mm. Abdullahpurmet has a deficit of 38.5% with 403.8 mm of rainfall compared to the normal 656.3 mm.

Experts attribute the lack of rainfall in these areas to various factors such as extensive tree cutting, decreasing forest cover, and excessive use of groundwater due to rapid urbanization.
