The State Excise and Prohibition Department in Telangana has received over 100,000 applications for licensed liquor shops. The government made more than Rs 2000 crore from the sale of these applications. On the last day alone, nearly 60,000 applications were received by the Excise wing.

The draw of lots to select licensees for over 2,600 wine shops in the state will take place on August 21. On the same day, the first installment of payment for retail shop excise tax is also due. Licenses will be canceled for those who fail to make the payment. The newly selected wine shops will start receiving stocks from November 30, and these stocks must be sold from December one onwards, according to officials.
