In Karimnagar, municipalities in the district have been successful in collecting property taxes during a special drive. They offered a 90% discount on interest, resulting in a significant amount of tax being collected. Six out of the top 10 municipalities in the state for tax collection are in the joint Karimnagar district. Sircilla was the top collector with Rs.5.46 crores (97.49%), followed by Huzurabad, Korutla, and Jammikunta.
In February, half of the unpaid taxes were announced to have a 90% interest waiver. The goal was met within a month, with properties like the BSNL office paying off their dues. The Karimnagar Corporation also had successful tax collections, with Rs.30.98 crores (88.95%) collected out of Rs.34.83 crores.
Other municipalities in the district also saw varying levels of tax collection success, with some still having amounts due. Siricilla Municipal Commissioner Dubbaka Lavanya credited the achievement to the collective efforts of staff and early awareness campaigns.
