Gadwal, Telangana – People across Jogulamba Gadwal district came together with devotion and pride to celebrate the birth anniversary of Maharshi Bhagiratha, a legendary figure remembered for bringing the holy Ganga River to Earth through his deep penance.

Various events took place in villages throughout the region, especially organized by the Uppari Bhagiratha community, who honor Bhagiratha as both a spiritual hero and cultural forefather.

According to tradition, Bhagiratha performed intense meditation for thousands of years to please Lord Shiva. His goal was to bring the divine Ganga from the heavens to Earth to cleanse the sins of his ancestors. This sacred event, known as Gangavataranam, is celebrated each year as Bhagiratha Jayanti.

In the village of Rajashri Garlapadu in Erravalli Mandal, Sunday’s celebration was especially grand. Mandal President Peddabhimudu Sagara addressed the gathering, calling the Sagara community pioneers in teaching the world the values of civilization. Village President Madhu Sagara praised Bhagiratha’s determination and encouraged the community to follow his example by aiming high in every area of life.

Many community leaders and members took part in the event, including Ravichandra Sagar, Rajashekar, Gurumanna, Chinna Bheemudu, Babu, Ravi, Krishna, Mallesh, Beesanna, Mahesh, Karunakar, Raghu, Parashuramudu, Nanda Kishore, and Varun.

A similar celebration took place in A. Budidapadu village in Manavapadu Mandal, led by District Sagara Association President M.U. Venkatesh. Villagers offered flower garlands to a portrait of Maharshi Bhagiratha while sharing stories of his sacrifice and mission.

Speakers at the event highlighted how Bhagiratha’s penance was more than a personal journey—it helped lay the foundation of human civilization by making water, the essence of life, widely available.

One speaker said, “Maharshi Bhagiratha represents selfless dedication. Where there is water, there is life, culture, and progress. His actions changed the course of humanity.”

The atmosphere was filled with devotion, unity, and cultural pride. Chants of “Jai Bhagiratha!” and “Jai Jai Bhagiratha!” echoed through the air, bringing the community together in celebration and inspiration.
