Hyderabad: A Revanth Reddy, the Chief Minister, announced a new education policy for the state. This policy aims to improve the education system, which he claims was neglected during the 10-year Bharat Rashtra Samithi rule.
He urged teachers to support the government in rebuilding Telangana‘s education sector. The new policy will introduce reforms to ensure quality education for underprivileged groups. Reddy spoke about this during the Teachers’ Day event on Friday.
Reddy, who manages the education portfolio, emphasized his commitment to reviving education. He highlighted that, unlike other leaders who focus on revenue and finance, he chose education due to its declining state. An official committee is working on recommendations for this revival.
The Chief Minister responded to critics questioning his role in education. He pointed out that the previous government promised free education from kindergarten to post-graduation but failed to deliver. Teacher hiring stopped in 2017, but the current government recruited 11,000 teachers in 55 days.
Reddy criticized the KCR government for turning education into a business, neglecting universities like Osmania and Kakatiya. He stated that student enrollment in government schools rose after his government took charge, with an increase of 3 lakh students. Currently, 24 lakh students attend 27,000 government schools, while 34 lakh are in 10,000 private schools.
The Chief Minister emphasized the transformative power of education, urging teachers to ensure a promising future for their students. He encouraged the development of government schools to rival corporate institutions.
To enhance skills, the government is establishing Young India Residential Schools and a Skills University for unemployed youth. Reddy also urged teachers, especially in rural areas, to support students in sports and raise awareness about its benefits. He stressed the importance of educating students on avoiding drugs, mentioning the formation of an Eagle Force to combat drug trafficking in Telangana.
