Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has described the Nizam as one of the best rulers in history, praising his leadership and administrative capabilities. Speaking in the Telangana Assembly, the Chief Minister highlighted how the Nizam effectively governed a vast region and contributed significantly to its development. His remarks have sparked discussions about the historical legacy of the Nizam of Hyderabad, who ruled the princely state until Indian independence in 1947.
The Chief Minister elaborated on the financial model that enabled the Nizam’s extensive developmental work. He explained that the majority of the Nizam’s revenue came from taxes collected on 60 percent of the land that was owned by the people. This substantial tax income formed the backbone of the state’s treasury and allowed for large-scale public investments. Revanth Reddy emphasized that these funds were not merely accumulated but were strategically utilized for building institutions and infrastructure that continue to serve the region even today.
The Chief Minister listed several landmark institutions and projects established during the Nizam’s rule, including the Nizam Sagar Project, Nizam Sugar Factory, Nizam College, Osmania University, the Legislative Council building, the High Court, City College, and Osmania Hospital. These institutions represent the Nizam’s vision for education, healthcare, agriculture, and governance infrastructure. Many of these establishments remain functional and continue to be integral to Telangana’s educational and administrative framework, serving thousands of people across the state.
