Water Board MD Ashok Reddy issues notice after spotting violation on Road No. 12
Hyderabad, November 26, 2025 – A car owner in Banjara Hills has been fined Rs.10,000 for washing a Mercedes G-Wagon with drinking water, in a strict enforcement action by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB).
Water Board MD Takes Action
Water Board MD Ashok Reddy personally noticed a man on Road No. 12, Banjara Hills washing his luxury vehicle with potable water. He immediately stopped the activity and issued a notice on the spot.
The incident highlights the Water Board’s zero-tolerance approach toward misuse of drinking water, which is meant for consumption and essential household purposes, not for washing vehicles.
Warning to Citizens
The Water Board has warned that anyone found misusing drinking water will face strict action, including fines and potential water connection restrictions.
Citizens are advised to:
- Use recycled or non-potable water for washing vehicles
- Avoid wasteful use of drinking water
- Report instances of water misuse to authorities
The action serves as a reminder that water conservation is a shared responsibility, and violations will be penalized regardless of economic status or vehicle ownership.
