Water was released into the Sagar left canal on Friday evening by Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy.

Earlier in the day, Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, along with Devarakonda MLA Balunayak, Miryalaguda MLA Lakshma Reddy, and MLC Teenmar Mallanna, arrived by helicopter from the Assembly. They landed at the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Telangana State Backward Classes Gurukulam in Nagarjuna Sagar.

They were welcomed with a traditional Poorna Kumbha and music by brahmins. Accompanied by District Collector Narayana Reddy and irrigation department officials, they performed pujas at the head regulator panel board and started the release of water into the left canal.

As water began to flow into the canal, offerings such as turmeric, vermillion, a saree, and a pumpkin were made to the Krishna river. They then went to the flood canal and released water there as well. Afterward, they returned to Nagarjuna Sagar and held a press conference at Vijayavihar. They initially released a thousand cusecs of water into the canal, with plans to increase the amount every hour until full capacity was reached. Minister Uttam announced that water would be provided to fields up to the end of the canal.

Security was tight, with vehicles stopped at the main road and only key leaders’ vehicles allowed through. Media access was restricted; only a few people were permitted to take videos and photos, and a media point was set up outside. This level of security was unprecedented.

Unlike the previous year, water was not released into Sagar last year. However, early rains this year allowed water to reach the reservoirs early, enabling an early release into the canal.

Many people, including locals from the Nagarjuna Sagar constituency and leaders from Devarakonda, Nalgonda, Miryalaguda, Huzurnagar, and other areas, came to witness the event. Several notable figures, such as DCC President Kethavath Shankar Nayak, former ZP floor leader Pasham Ram Reddy, and others, participated in the program.
