Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) has introduced several eco-friendly innovations at Secunderabad Railway Station. These include a water recycling sewage treatment plant and a material recovery facility, among other measures.
SCR officials explained that these initiatives aim to improve cleanliness and sustainability at the station. Secunderabad Railway Station sees an average of two lakh passengers every day and handles 197 passenger trains daily. The station staff work hard to provide high-quality services to all passengers.
One of the key eco-friendly measures is a water recycling sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 500 KLD (kiloliters per day). This plant helps ensure that as little water as possible is wasted, supporting the station’s goal of achieving zero water wastage.
In addition, the station has set up a 26-square-meter material recovery facility. This waste segregation shed helps in sorting out waste efficiently, contributing to better waste management at the station.
Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager of SCR, mentioned that Secunderabad Railway Station is setting new benchmarks for eco-friendly operations and cleanliness within the Indian Railways network. He emphasized that these efforts are aligned with national goals for sustainability and environmental responsibility, helping to create a cleaner and greener future for both Indian Railways and its passengers.
