Hyderabad: On September 19, 2025, Sphoorthy Engineering College and the Konda Laxman Bapuji Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (KLBIIHT) from the Department of Handlooms & Textiles, Government of Telangana, organized a seminar. This event took place at Sphoorthy Engineering College and focused on merging modern technology with traditional textile methods. The seminar began with a ceremonial lamp lighting by dignitaries. Dr. K. SubbaRao, Head of R&D at SPHN, emphasized the rich handloom heritage of Telangana, highlighting renowned styles like Pochampally ikat from Bhoodan Pochampally. The event also celebrated other traditional designs like Gadwal, Narayanpet, and Siddipet, showcasing their contribution to craftsmanship and sustainability in the state.

Speakers from KLBIIHT and SPHN discussed how AI, automation, and computer-aided design can reduce manual work and improve the livelihoods of weavers. Dr. V. Himaja Kumar, Principal of KLBIIHT, spoke about the challenges artisans face and suggested tech-based solutions for inclusive growth. Dr. P. Gnanavel, Vice-Principal of KLBIIHT, focused on digital transformation in textiles through automation. Smt. Kusuma Varsha talked about the evolution and sustainability of the handloom sector. Dr. Ravikanth Regalla, Head of the Sustainable Development Department at SPHN, discussed the historical importance and current trends in the textile industry. Meanwhile, Dr. Kiran B. M., Professor & Head of CSE at SPHN, highlighted how CSE technology could modernize traditional practices.

The seminar attracted 80 students from Computer Science and related fields, with participation from the SeaBytes club, Eco Club, Sustainability Development Cell, and the Creators Club, promoting interdisciplinary learning. The Management, Secretary and Correspondent Sri. Jagan Mohan Reddy, and Principal of Sphoorthy Engineering College fully supported the seminar, emphasizing the institution’s dedication to academic excellence, industry partnerships, and socially impactful projects.
