In Hyderabad, the State government is considering raising the examination fee for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) to Rs 1,000 per paper. Members of the Telangana State Committee of the Students Federation of India (SFI) are asking the government to lower the fee.
The TET exam fee was Rs 200 from 2011 to 2021. It went up to Rs 300 in 2022 and Rs 400 in 2023. However, the sudden jump to Rs 1,000 this year is seen as unfair by SFI members.
Many disadvantaged students are working hard to prepare for the TET exam, even taking coaching classes. Increasing the fee for online exams puts a heavy financial burden on many eligible candidates. The SFI believes that it would be more reasonable for the government to decrease the fee.
