During a meeting with a Malaysian trade delegation at the Secretariat on Monday, the Minister emphasized the State’s investor-friendly policies. This visit followed an invitation extended by Sridhar Babu during his participation in the Malaysian Telugu Maha Sabha last month.

The Minister discussed several opportunities for Malaysian investments, including solar power projects, dry ports, sewage treatment plants, and support for women entrepreneurs and startups. He invited Malaysia to collaborate on building advanced sewage treatment facilities to clean and desilt Hyderabad’s Hussain Sagar Lake. Additionally, he shared the government’s plans to establish two more dry ports in Telangana and sought Malaysian participation in their development. Plans to transform Kinnerasani and Srisailam backwaters into major tourist destinations with resorts were also proposed.

Sridhar Babu highlighted the significant role of women in Telangana’s economy, noting that over 6.4 million women are part of self-help groups. He sought Malaysia’s help in marketing their products and suggested organizing an exhibition in Malaysia to showcase goods made in Telangana. The delegation responded positively to this idea. He also pointed out the immense potential in the food processing sector and encouraged Malaysian companies to explore investment opportunities.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageshwar Rao urged Malaysia to assist Telangana in palm oil cultivation. He requested the supply of palm oil seeds or the establishment of nurseries in the State. Additionally, he called for support in developing short-height palm varieties with shorter leaves and resistance to diseases like Ganoderma. Telangana, he said, plans to expand palm oil cultivation to one million acres in the next four to five years, with the possibility of eventually increasing it to two million acres.

With these proposals, Telangana continues to strengthen ties with Malaysia, aiming for mutual growth and development in various sectors.
