Hyderabad: The Telangana Government plans to hire 2,322 nurses this year. They will also offer German and Japanese language courses through the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU). This initiative aims to help nurses secure jobs in these countries, announced Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narsimha on Tuesday.

Nursing is more than just a job; it is a noble profession demanding compassion, courage, and dedication. Nurses not only heal with treatments but also with kindness and empathy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when even families couldn’t be with their loved ones in hospitals, nurses stood by the patients as their support and hope. They risked their lives to care for others, demonstrating bravery and humanity, remarked the Health Minister.

Telangana is committed to boosting job opportunities, especially in healthcare. Over 17,000 positions have been filled, with more than 9,000 being nursing roles. The state aims to equip nurses for employment both domestically and internationally, said Raja Narsimha.

Nurses from Telangana are well-regarded for their expertise, but language barriers limit their chances abroad, especially in places like Germany and Japan. These countries need more nurses due to ageing populations, presenting a chance for Indian nurses. To help nurses from Telangana work in these nations, they need structured training in German and Japanese languages along with cultural understanding, stated the Minister.

The government collaborates with EFLU, Hyderabad for this training. EFLU excels in teaching foreign languages. Germany and Japan have agreements with India to hire nurses. The planned partnership between Telangana and EFLU will provide nurses with the skills needed for international jobs, strengthening Telangana’s reputation as a source of skilled healthcare professionals.

Currently, Telangana has 1,76,000 registered nurses. Over 18,000 Nursing Officers work in government hospitals. Last year, 6,956 Nursing Officer positions were filled in government hospitals. This year, 2,322 positions are set to be filled, with the recruitment process nearing completion.
