In Gadwal, a troubling situation has emerged at the Social Welfare Gurukul School in Itikyala Mandal. Reports indicate that students are being forced to do cleaning tasks like scrubbing bathrooms, toilets, and washing utensils. These jobs are assigned by the school principal.
This has prompted student union leaders to file a complaint with the District Collector at the Gadwal District Collectorate. They are calling for the immediate suspension of the Itikyala Gurukul principal involved in these alleged practices.
Kurva Pallayya, a leader from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi Vidyarthi (BRSV), spoke to the media, condemning the incident. He highlighted that making minors, mostly under 18, do such tasks violates child labor laws. Gurukul schools should educate underprivileged children, not subject them to forced labor.
He insisted on the principal’s suspension and demanded strict disciplinary measures. Pallayya also pointed out that this isn’t an isolated case. Recently, a similar issue arose at Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Gurukul School near Alampur Chowrasta, where students had to clean due to a lack of staff and poor facilities.
“These repeated incidents highlight the failure of state education administration. Parents send their children to these schools for education and dignity, not exploitation,” Pallayya emphasized.
Student leaders also noted a lack of basic amenities in hostels, not only in Itikyala or Alampur but also across various Gurukuls, KGBVs (Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas), and welfare hostels in the district.
They urged the District Collector to:
- Investigate all residential educational institutions in the district.
- Ensure enough support staff is available to prevent students from doing manual chores.
- Upgrade facilities, including sanitation, clean water, and kitchen infrastructure.
The complaint to the District Collector was filed by:
- Kurva Pallayya – State Leader, BRSV & District Coordinator, Jogulamba Gadwal
- Haleem Pasha – District President, PDSU
- Danayya – District President, PYL
- Rangaswamy – Assistant Secretary, USFI
They warned that if swift action isn’t taken, state-wide protests will be organized by student unions.
The leaders criticized the Congress-led state government for neglecting students’ needs and failing to monitor welfare institutions. They claimed that due to a lack of dignity and facilities, students are being pushed out of classrooms.
“The government must address these issues seriously to maintain public trust in residential education systems,” said Haleem Pasha.
The District Collector has received the complaint, and further action, like an inquiry or suspension of the principal, is expected soon. Student unions remain committed to fighting for justice and better conditions for all students.
