The central government is ready to hold elections in Jammu and Kashmir, according to the Supreme Court. The government has been updating the voter registry and is in the advanced stage of the process. The legislative assembly elections are expected to take place after the panchayat polls and municipal polls. The sequence of these elections will be decided by the State Election Commission and the Central Election Commission.

There are three pending elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The first step is to introduce the three-tier panchayat raj system, followed by the district development council elections that have already been conducted.
