Hyderabad: Telangana Congress leader T Jagga Reddy praised Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, calling him the true champion behind the idea of a nationwide caste census. Speaking at a press meet, Jagga Reddy also credited Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for taking bold steps in Telangana to bring this idea to life.
He said, “While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has finally agreed to the caste census, the credit truly belongs to Rahul Gandhi. Rahul thought of it first, and now the country is following his lead.”
Jagga Reddy claimed that BJP leaders are uneasy because Rahul beat them to the idea. He pointed out that after Rahul suggested it, Revanth Reddy took action in the state, and the results have been positive. “Rahul is the face of the caste census in India. In Telangana, that role belongs to Revanth Reddy,” he said.
He emphasized that although Modi’s acceptance is a good step, it doesn’t change who really pushed the idea forward. “BJP is now playing catch-up,” he added.
Jagga Reddy also stated that Rahul Gandhi’s vision is clearly reflected in the implementation of the caste census. He dismissed criticism from leaders like Kishan Reddy, KTR, and Harish Rao, saying their opinions won’t change public support for the move.
He insisted that only Prime Minister Modi, not others, should explain whether religion will be included in the national caste census. “This isn’t a small local decision. It was passed by the Union Cabinet, and people deserve clarity,” he said.
He ended his speech by stressing unity, saying, “Whether Hindu, Muslim, or Christian, we all belong to this land. Our roots are the same.”
