Hyderabad: The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) General Secretary, Dharam Guruva Reddy, accused former minister K T Rama Rao and MLC Kavitha of significant misconduct in the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). He claimed they were involved in fraudulent accounting and manipulated club memberships.
In a press briefing, Reddy revealed that a quid pro quo arrangement was evident in the HCA’s wrongdoings, which are under scrutiny by the ongoing CID investigation. He referred to the 2015-16 HCA AGM Report, highlighting that K T Rama Rao was nominated to the BCCI’s IT and Data Management Sub-Committee. This led to alleged exchanges of favors.
Reddy accused KTR of facilitating contracts for his brother-in-law, Rajendra Pakala, whose company, EventsNow.com, handled IPL ticketing. In return, KTR allegedly arranged for the HCA to pay a reduced property tax of just Rs 25 lakh per year instead of Rs 14 crore to IALA.
The TCA also criticized HCA’s financial conduct, stating that the same audit report has been repeated for ten years. Reddy noted that Rs 6.10 crore was annually allocated for club development, often to clubs without active teams, and questioned the Rs 12 crore yearly spent on HCA administration.
Reddy further mentioned that the HCA President’s Report by Arshad Ayub documented KTR’s role in settling tax dues in flexible payments. Despite the ticketing contract concluding in 2019, audit records from 2017-2025 still showed Rs 12 lakhs paid annually to the same company, suggesting possible kickbacks. He also alleged that the current HCA President was elected through fraudulent means by altering the list of government institutional voters.
The TCA has urged the CID to extend its investigation to cover the past decade’s financial misconduct. Reddy claimed that 76 clubs do not meet BCCI bylaws, with 155 clubs facing possible suspension. He called on the Government and CID to file criminal charges against those responsible and demanded TCA’s recognition as a full BCCI member to support cricket in Telangana.
