Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency Development (HYDRAA) plans to examine if floodwaters from Ameerpet and nearby areas can be redirected to the lake in Krishnakanth Park.
HYDRAA will also search for obstacles in the underground pipelines along the Ameerpet-Sanjeev Reddy Nagar main road using a Ground Penetrating Radar Survey (GPRS). Heavy rains have caused flooding in Ameerpet, Maitrivanam, and nearby areas, creating problems for the public.
On Monday, HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath visited the areas prone to flooding. He checked and assessed actions to find a lasting solution for the frequent flooding around Ameerpet Metro Station and Maitrivanam junction.
During his visit, Commissioner Ranganath inspected stormwater drains in Ameerpet and Maitrivanam, later visiting the Krishnakanth Park lake and drains in Jubilee Hills Road No. 10, Venkatagiri, Rehmat Nagar, and Yousufguda. Currently covering seven acres, the Krishnakanth Park lake has the potential to expand to 12 acres.
Officials state this expansion could hold nearly 120 million liters of rainwater temporarily, releasing it downstream once the rain stops.
The commissioner and officials noticed that water currently bypasses the lake, flowing directly through Madhuranagar to Ameerpet, causing severe waterlogging at the metro station.
Despite a 1100-meter-long box drain from Madhura Nagar to Ameerpet Metro Station, the flat terrain hinders water flow. Additionally, garbage and plastic waste carried by rainwater block the stormwater channels, further slowing drainage. To resolve this, the HYDRAA Commissioner instructed officials to use GPRS to identify soil deposits and blockages in the pipelines, ensuring smoother water flow.
