Telangana BC hearings conclude with Andhra MLA’s request on Kalinga caste

In Hyderabad, Kuna Ravi Kumar, an MLA from the Amadalavalasa constituency in Andhra Pradesh, appealed to the Telangana Backward Classes Commission. He asked for the Kalinga caste to be added to the BC community list. The Commission held a public hearing to discuss the inclusion of 26 castes that were left out of the Telangana BC caste list after the state was formed.

The hearing was led by BC Commission Chairman G Niranjan and involved members Rapolu Jayaprakash, Bala Lakshmi Rangu, Deputy Director U Srinivasa Rao, Special Officer G Satish Kumar, and Research Officer G Lakshminarayana. On the last day, the Commission reviewed 64 cases.

In total, the three-day hearing covered 133 cases. Representatives from the Pondara, Settibalija, Koppulavelama, Polnativelama, and Kalinga castes spoke to the Commission, asking for their inclusion in the Telangana BC list. Kuna Ravi Kumar represented the Kalinga caste. Meanwhile, members of the Telangana BC ‘A’ group urged the Commission not to reinstate the 26 castes that were previously removed.
