Hyderabad: On Wednesday, Upasana Kamineni Konidela, Vice Chairperson of CSR at Apollo Hospitals, initiated a campaign named ‘Detect Early, Fight Early’. This initiative aims to spread awareness about the importance of early detection in battling breast cancer.
The campaign will cover 24 cities nationwide and aims to reach 150,000 women. Trained field staff will lead this effort with strong community involvement and health evaluations. Breast cancer is a leading cancer type among women in India. Data from the ICMR’s National Cancer Registry shows it makes up 14% of all female cancers. In India, one in 29 women faces the risk of developing breast cancer in their lifetime. The ‘Detect Early, Fight Early’ campaign addresses these issues by offering reliable and culturally appropriate information locally. It will hold public discussions, workshops, and awareness sessions to encourage women to focus on their health, recognize symptoms early, and seek timely treatment through self-examinations.
Koji Wada, Managing Director of Fujifilm India, emphasized, “Early detection and awareness are key in preventing breast cancer. This campaign aims to inform women, detect the disease early, and ultimately save lives.”
