Telangana Caste Survey Reveals Demographic Distribution Across 35 Major Communities

The Telangana government has released comprehensive caste survey data revealing the demographic composition of the state’s population across 35 major caste groups. The data, published by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Telangana, provides detailed insights into the distribution of various communities residing in the state.

According to the survey findings, Madiga community emerges as the largest group with 36.58 lakh people, constituting 10.3 percent of the state’s population. The Shaik Muslim community ranks second with 27.96 lakh members, representing 7.9 percent of the total population, followed by the Mudiraj community with 26.39 lakh people at 7.4 percent.

The Lambadis or Banjara community accounts for 24.04 lakh individuals, making up 6.8 percent of the population, while the Yadava community comprises 20.19 lakh people at 5.7 percent. The Reddy community, traditionally considered politically significant in the state, has a population of 17.10 lakh, representing 4.8 percent of the total.

Other significant communities include Goud with 16.30 lakh members (4.6 percent), Mala with 14.72 lakh (4.1 percent), and Munnurukapu with 13.75 lakh people (3.9 percent). Notably, 11.96 lakh individuals (3.4 percent) identified themselves under the “No Caste” category, while the Padmasali community has 11.82 lakh members (3.3 percent).

The survey data shows Rajaka community with 9.96 lakh people (2.8 percent) and Kuruba or Kuruma with 7.96 lakh members (2.2 percent). Communities such as Odde or Vaddera have 6.44 lakh people (1.8 percent), while Muslims other than BC-E category number 6.33 lakh (1.8 percent).

Among the traditionally forward communities, Komati or Vaishya has 5.09 lakh members (1.4 percent), Kamma has 3.68 lakh (1.0 percent), Brahmins number 3.36 lakh (0.9 percent), Kapu or Naidu has 2.42 lakh (0.7 percent), and Velama comprises 1.44 lakh people (0.4 percent).

Several tribal communities are also represented in the data, including Koya with 4.28 lakh members (1.2 percent), Gond with 3.82 lakh (1.1 percent), and Yerukulas with 1.85 lakh people (0.5 percent). Other communities listed include Agnikulakshatriya (5.27 lakh), Nayi-Brahmin (4.34 lakh), Kummara (4.31 lakh), and Vadrangi (4.08 lakh).

The complete dataset encompasses communities ranging from larger populations to smaller groups such as Dudekula (2.70 lakh), Perika (2.31 lakh), Beda (1.90 lakh), Veerashaiva Lingayat (1.73 lakh), Blacksmith (1.66 lakh), Dhobi Muslim (1.26 lakh), and Uppara or Sagara (1.24 lakh).
