Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to remove silt from its reservoirs. This decision follows the central government’s water management policies. The goal is to increase water storage capacity and make irrigation systems in the state more efficient.

As part of a pilot project, the state’s Irrigation Department has been given the green light to start removing silt from one of the major reservoirs. This project aligns with guidelines from the central Ministry of Jal Shakti and is expected to serve as a model for other similar projects in the future.

The decision is part of Telangana’s efforts to meet the growing demand for water and improve irrigation infrastructure. Over time, silt has built up in the reservoirs, reducing their ability to hold water and affecting the overall water supply system.

The pilot project will test how effective large-scale silt removal can be. It will also provide important information on how to better manage reservoirs. If the project succeeds, it could be expanded to other reservoirs in Telangana, helping the state’s agriculture and irrigation needs.
