Telangana has voiced its concerns about Andhra Pradesh’s focus on the Banakacharla project. This comes before a meeting called by the Union Water Resources Minister, CR Patil.
In a letter to the central government, Telangana stated that discussing the Banakacharla project at the upcoming meeting on the 16th is unnecessary. The state prefers to address pending projects related to the Krishna River. They have requested national status for the Palamuru and Dindi projects and want the Ichchampalli project to be handled by the Centre. Additionally, Telangana seeks 80 TMC of water for the Pranahita project at Thummadihetti and proposes a new project to utilize 200 TMC of flood water.
The Telangana government pointed out that the Banakacharla project lacks approvals and violates laws and tribunal rulings. They argue that discussing the Godavari-Banakacharla link project is inappropriate and could damage trust in the central regulatory bodies.
The meeting, set to address issues of both Telugu states, is scheduled for 2:30 PM at the Water Resources Ministry headquarters in Delhi. It was postponed from the 11th due to unengaged Chief Ministers. Andhra Pradesh remains focused on the Banakacharla agenda. The Water Resources Ministry has asked both states to submit any additional topics for the meeting.
