The Telangana government has announced plans to construct a 1.5-kilometre Y-shaped flyover in Hyderabad to address the growing traffic congestion in the city’s central areas. The proposed flyover will connect Nampally Telugu University to Masab Tank and Khairatabad via Lakdikapool, creating a crucial link in the city’s road infrastructure. Officials have stated that the project is designed to enhance east-west connectivity across the capital city and provide much-needed relief to commuters who face daily traffic bottlenecks in these busy corridors.
One of the key highlights of the project is that the flyover will be constructed without any private land acquisition, which is expected to expedite the construction process and minimize legal complications. The government plans to utilize existing road space and government-owned land for the entire stretch of the flyover. This approach will help avoid delays typically associated with land acquisition disputes and compensation issues that have plagued several infrastructure projects in the past. The Y-shaped design has been specifically chosen to allow seamless traffic flow from one point to two different destinations, reducing the need for vehicles to navigate through congested surface roads.
The proposed flyover route starts from Nampally Telugu University and branches out towards Masab Tank and Khairatabad, passing through the busy Lakdikapool junction. These areas are among the most congested zones in Hyderabad, particularly during peak hours when thousands of commuters travel between residential areas and commercial hubs. The new infrastructure is expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease the burden on existing roads that currently handle heavy traffic volumes. Transport experts believe that the flyover will improve traffic flow and reduce vehicle idling time, which will also contribute to lower air pollution levels in these areas.
