The Telangana Government has officially applied for Environmental Clearance (EC) to move forward with the ambitious Musi Riverfront Development Project. The project aims to transform the riverfront areas along the Musi River in two distinct phases, with Phase 1 covering significant stretches from two major reservoirs to Bapu Ghat. Officials have indicated that the land acquisition process for the initial phase has been completed, marking a crucial milestone in the project’s progression.
The first phase of the project is divided into two segments. Phase 1A covers a 9.2 kilometer stretch extending from Himayat Sagar to Bapu Ghat, while Phase 1B encompasses an 11.3 kilometer stretch running from Osman Sagar to Bapu Ghat. These two phases together represent the initial development corridor that will undergo comprehensive riverfront transformation as part of the broader urban development initiative.
The scale of land acquisition for the project has been substantial. According to official records, the government has acquired 3,279.19 acres of land to facilitate the riverfront development. As part of the land clearance process, authorities have removed 10,017 structures from the designated project area. This extensive land acquisition and structure removal exercise demonstrates the government’s commitment to executing the project on the planned scale.
The Musi Riverfront Development Project represents one of the major infrastructure initiatives undertaken by the Telangana Government to rejuvenate the river and its surrounding areas. The project seeks to address environmental concerns, improve urban aesthetics, and create recreational spaces along the river. With the Environmental Clearance application now submitted, the project awaits regulatory approval before construction activities can commence on the acquired land.
