Telangana to Ensure Regular Salaries for Gram Panchayat Employees

The Telangana government has decided to pay monthly salaries to all employees working in Gram Panchayats, just like State government employees. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to make the necessary arrangements for ensuring regular salary payments to the Panchayat staff.

There are currently 92,351 employees working in Gram Panchayats across the State. To pay their salaries, the government will need Rs 116 crore every month. The Chief Minister clarified that the Panchayat Raj and Finance Departments will work together to create a clear policy to ensure timely payments. These salaries will be disbursed through the “green channel” system to avoid delays.

On Thursday, Revanth Reddy held a review meeting with officials from the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Departments at the Integrated Command Control Centre. During the meeting, he also addressed the issue of pending payments under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). Officials have been instructed to clear dues related to approximately 1.26 lakh employment works that have been pending since April of last year.

Additionally, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to regularly allocate and use funds received from the Central government for village development projects. He urged officials to collect outstanding funds from schemes like the Employment Guarantee Scheme and the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana before the financial year ends.

The Telangana government’s efforts aim to improve financial stability for Gram Panchayat employees and ensure the development of rural areas through proper fund management.
