The Global AI Summit 2024 kicked off today in Hyderabad, creating a significant buzz in the world of artificial intelligence. Held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre, the event gathered industry leaders, government officials, AI experts, startups, and students. The summit aimed to explore the transformative power of AI technologies and their applications in various sectors. The event underscored Telangana’s ambition to become a leading AI hub in India.
The summit was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri A. Revanth Reddy, along with other notable figures such as the Minister for IT & Industries Shri D. Sridhar Babu, and Shri BVR Mohan Reddy, Founder Chairperson of Cyient. The government also announced the signing of over 20 MoUs with leading companies, startups, academic institutions, and non-profits. Chief Minister Reddy emphasized the state’s commitment to embracing AI for a brighter future.
One of the key announcements was the unveiling of the AI City, a 200-acre area in Mucherla dedicated to AI infrastructure. This city will feature tech research parks, AI compute clusters, startup incubators, an AI Skills University, and more. The Chief Minister also introduced a detailed AI roadmap, encouraging global AI stakeholders to invest and collaborate. The state also launched an AI Advisory Council to guide its AI initiatives and revealed a compendium highlighting 60+ AI use cases.
The day continued with insightful keynotes. Debjani Ghosh, President of Nasscom, spoke about “India AI @ 2047,” offering a vision of AI’s role in India’s future. Dr. Peter Diamandis, Founder of XPRIZE Foundation, captivated the audience with his talk, “What Does the Future Hold for Us?” He shared his vision of groundbreaking innovations and transformative technologies.
Dr. Pratyush Kumar, Co-Founder of Sarvam AI, discussed the practical applications of generative AI in India, while Daniela Combe from IBM explored the balance between advancing technology and maintaining ethical standards. The event also hosted panel discussions on AI’s impact on sectors like agri-tech and space-tech, highlighting ambitious projects from Telangana.
Another significant session was a fireside chat with Shri Abhishek Singh from MeitY, focusing on the challenges of AI adoption in India. Additionally, Smt Rama Devi Lanka, Director of Emerging Technologies Wing of the Government of Telangana, showcased AI use cases in healthcare and wildlife protection.
The day concluded with a networking dinner, allowing attendees to discuss insights and make new connections. The summit was supported by key partners, including WTC and Evernorth as title sponsors, and featured contributions from tech giants like NVIDIA, Google, Microsoft, and Meta.
On the second day, the summit continued with a focus on AI’s role in education and workforce training. Sal Khan, Founder & CEO of Khan Academy, delivered a keynote on AI’s transformative power in education. Dr. Arun Sundararajan from NYU Stern School of Business discussed the future of generative AI and its impact on human autonomy.
Panel discussions on topics like “Building Sovereign AI for India” and “Building Trust into AI Systems” emphasized the importance of self-reliant AI solutions and ethical AI development. The summit also highlighted the need for AI talent development, with experts discussing strategies for building a future-ready AI workforce.
Young innovators also took the stage to showcase their potential in driving AI innovation. The event concluded with the signing of several MoUs to enhance sectors like healthcare, education, and agriculture. The Telangana Global AI Summit emphasized AI’s transformative role in governance and public service delivery, with the state aiming to become a model for AI adoption in governance.
