Junior doctors in Hyderabad were planning a strike to demand a 15% increase in stipends for interns, PGs, and Super-Speciality residents. However, they have decided to withhold the strike after receiving assurance from the Health Minister T Harish Rao. The minister promised that the government was positive about the stipend hike and that the file was waiting for approval from the Chief Minister’s office. The Health Minister said that the hike would be done in May 2021, just like last year.

The Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA) General Secretary, Dr RK Akhil Kumar, thanked the Health Minister for his support on various issues related to junior doctors. He said that JUDA had decided to withhold the strike in light of this assurance and to prioritize public healthcare.
