Gadwal: The Telangana government has revived the 'Nethanna Thrift Fund' to aid handloom weavers and their colleagues. Govindayya, Assistant Director of the Handlooms and Textiles Department, announced the scheme’s comeback to assist those in weaving, dyeing, designing, warping, and winding.
This initiative encourages financial discipline and long-term savings for workers in the textile industry. Interested weavers and workers can apply until June 19, 2025.
To apply, individuals need:
– Aadhaar card copy
– Bank passbook copy
– RD-I and RD-II forms
– Four passport-size photos
Eligibility requires applicants to be at least 18 years old. They must earn at least 50% of their income from handloom work and have a geo-tagged loom number. Allied workers in roles like dyeing and designing can also apply.
Participants must open joint savings accounts, RD-I and RD-II, in their current banks. Both the weaver and the Assistant Director will be listed on these accounts. The plan requires:
– 8% of the weaver’s monthly wages to be deposited into the RD-I account by the 15th each month
– An equivalent 8% from the government into the RD-II account
The scheme spans 24 months, allowing weavers to save with government help. Govindayya encouraged eligible workers to join for better financial stability. This scheme is part of Telangana’s effort to support traditional artisans and revive the handloom sector.
