Hyderabad: The Telangana School Education Department has officially postponed the reopening of schools for the academic year 2026-27 from June 12, 2026 to June 15, 2026. The decision applies to both government and private schools across the state.

The orders were issued by Director of School Education Dr. E. Naveen Nicolas, IAS, through proceedings dated June 7, 2026. The department stated that the decision was taken after receiving multiple representations from various stakeholders seeking reconsideration of the reopening date.

As per the original academic calendar, schools were scheduled to reopen on June 12 following the summer vacation. However, the government noted that June 13 and June 14 fall on the second Saturday and Sunday respectively, resulting in only one effective working day before the weekend.

Considering these factors, the government decided to reopen schools on Monday, June 15, 2026, instead of June 12.

Compensation for Lost Academic Time

To ensure that the prescribed instructional days under the Academic Calendar 2026-27 are maintained, the School Education Department has announced a compensatory working day.

According to the order, the second Saturday on July 11, 2026, which would normally be a holiday, will now be treated as a regular working day for all government and private schools under the School Education Department.
