Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy will meet Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil in New Delhi on Monday. They will discuss the ongoing Krishna river water dispute and demand a fair share of water for Telangana. The state also plans to raise concerns about Andhra Pradesh allegedly diverting water without permission.
The Telangana government is asking the central government to step in and ensure the state gets enough water for its irrigation projects. The state will also request the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) to speed up its report on the structural safety of the Kaleshwaram project.
To better monitor water usage, Telangana has decided to install telemetry systems at its own cost. This system will help track water levels in the Krishna river. Initially, both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh had agreed to share the cost, but Andhra Pradesh later refused to contribute. Telangana’s Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy stressed that real-time monitoring is essential to prevent unauthorized water withdrawals and ensure fair distribution.
The water dispute between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh has been a long-standing issue. Telangana hopes that the central government will take quick action to resolve the matter and protect its water rights.
