Telangana’s SHE Teams registered 6,129 harassment cases in the first half of 2024. SHE Teams are a special force known for their undercover work and quick actions to improve women’s safety in the state.
A review meeting was held on August 8, led by Shikha Goel, the Director General of the Women Safety Wing. Over 300 officers attended to discuss the team’s progress and future plans to reduce harassment and ensure women’s safety.
Here are the details of the cases registered:
– Total Cases: 6,129
– FIRs Registered: 449
– Petty Cases: 2,314
– Counseling Cases: 1,085
– Harassment Over Phone: 986
– Stalking Cases: 604

Shikha Goel stressed the need for creating a “strong safety perception” and called for more awareness campaigns, especially in identified hotspots. The meeting also highlighted the need to expand initiatives like the Cyber Ambassador Platform and Bharosa Centers to offer full support to victims of sexual offences.
SHE Teams have been effective in reducing harassment incidents by increasing reporting, intervening effectively, and using technology. Many cases were reported through social media, showing the team’s proactive use of technology to fight crime.
The review also revealed a worrying number of minors involved in harassment cases. This points to the need for focused prevention programs to tackle the root causes of such behaviour.
The persistent efforts of SHE Teams have positively impacted women’s safety in Telangana. Through technology, undercover operations, and community engagement, they have helped create a safer environment for women.
