The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (TGPWU) has started a campaign to boycott airport trips provided by Ola, Uber, and Rapido. They are protesting against low fares set by these companies, which have made it difficult for cab drivers to earn a decent income.

The union has repeatedly asked the government and the transport department to introduce fair and uniform pricing for ride services. However, no action has been taken so far. TGPWU is urging the government to set a fair fare structure to help gig and platform workers earn a sustainable livelihood.

Shaik Salauddin, the founding president of TGPWU, said that drivers have been complaining about unfairly low fares for a long time. He explained that these fares not only reduce their earnings but also fail to recognize their time and effort. He called on the government to introduce a fair pricing policy that benefits both drivers and passengers.

As part of their protest, TGPWU has decided to boycott airport trips until the fares are revised to reasonable levels. The union is also informing passengers about the struggles faced by gig and platform workers. They are demanding immediate action from the government to regulate the pricing policies of app-based ride services.
