Malkajgiri Railway Station Undergoing Major Transformation
Malkajgiri Railway Station in Telangana is going through a major transformation. The redevelopment work is progressing quickly, with about 60% of the project already completed.
This station is one of 40 railway stations in Telangana being upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). Malkajgiri Railway Station falls under the Hyderabad Division and is classified as Suburban Grade-3 (SG-3). It is part of the Secunderabad-Manmad section and serves around 2,500 passengers daily. The station earns approximately ₹5.48 crore annually, and 27 pairs of trains stop here every day. Once the redevelopment is complete, the station will be able to handle more passengers. The total cost of the project is ₹27.61 crore.
According to South Central Railway (SCR), Malkajgiri Railway Station is an important hub for local travel in Hyderabad. It is located just 3 km from Secunderabad. The redevelopment will include several passenger-friendly upgrades such as a spacious concourse, waiting halls, food stalls, and restrooms. There will also be special facilities for differently-abled passengers, including separate toilets and ramps.
A senior officer from SCR shared that the redevelopment work started last year and is expected to be finished by next month. The work is being done in phases to avoid inconvenience to passengers. The improvements include a new station building façade, an entrance portico, a 12-meter-wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB), as well as three lifts and three escalators. Other upgrades include better platform surfaces, extra covered areas for passengers, new and improved toilets, a renovated waiting hall, and better traffic flow in the circulating area. Additionally, the station will showcase local art and culture with new signage and information boards for passengers.
Once completed, the upgraded Malkajgiri Railway Station will provide a better experience for commuters and improve overall travel convenience.
