The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has released Rs 7.5 crore for the construction of two hostels in Osmania University. The construction of the hostels was approved under the Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana (PM AJAY) with a total expenditure of Rs 30 crore. Each hostel will have a capacity of 250 students and will be funded entirely by the Centre, costing Rs 14.60 crores each.

The decision to fund the construction came after Union Minister G Kishan Reddy visited Osmania University and saw the poor condition of the existing hostels. He immediately requested support from the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment and wrote a letter in May. Kishan Reddy emphasized the need for better facilities for Scheduled Caste (SC) students and requested the construction of two new hostels.
