Hyderabad is taking steps to improve cleanliness. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and local police have started a special cleanliness campaign. They warned that anyone caught littering on roads or dumping garbage in water bodies will face strict penalties.
People who throw trash in open spaces or fail to manage waste properly will be fined heavily. This action comes because garbage is blocking roads and drains, causing them to overflow. This situation worsens during the monsoon, leading to mosquito-borne diseases and a bad smell.
During the rainy season, residents deal with traffic jams, pollution, and waterlogged streets. Poor sanitation is a major issue affecting many city areas. To address this, the Municipal Corporation and police have implemented strict measures against littering and illegal waste dumping. A senior GHMC officer stated that people caught dumping waste might face hefty fines or even jail time. Recently, five individuals in Borabanda were fined ₹1,000 each for illegal dumping.
Officials said this is just the start, and stricter punishments are coming. These actions aim to warn the public that repeat offenders could face up to eight days in jail, along with monetary fines. Penalties may become tougher in the future. First-time offenders will face fines, while repeated violations could lead to jail.
The GHMC urged citizens to help keep Hyderabad clean and safe. Littering not only damages the city’s image but also poses serious environmental and health risks. During the rainy season, stagnant sewage has increased mosquito breeding, leading to a rise in vector-borne diseases.
