Hyderabad faces severe traffic congestion on the heavily traveled 3-km stretch between Mehdipatnam, Tolichowki, and Shaikpet. Every day, 80,000 to 100,000 vehicles navigate this route, linking the IT corridor to nearby areas.
Residents in this area are growing increasingly frustrated. The constant traffic jams on the main roads are unbearable. Many drivers are now using the inner lanes of local neighborhoods to avoid the gridlock, worsening the situation and causing complete standstills.
This congestion impacts numerous neighborhoods, including Khader Bagh, Salar Jung, Vinoba Nagar, and Ayodhya Nagar, among others. Areas like Surya Nagar Colony and Aziz Bagh Colony in Shaikpet are particularly affected.
Mohammed Asif Hussain Sohail from Surya Nagar Colony notes that locals struggle because commuters are diverting through their streets. The increased traffic flow has damaged parked vehicles, especially cars.
The congestion is also raising noise and air pollution levels. This situation is distressing for residents, particularly the elderly and children who frequent the local parks. Asif Hussain highlights the growing discomfort within these communities.
Mohammed Nayeemuddin from Samatha Colony mentions that ongoing civic work from Mehdipatnam to Tolichowki exacerbates the traffic issues. Construction on the main roads forces drivers onto alternative routes that are also under development. Nayeem suggests that officials should manage these projects in phases to better handle traffic congestion.
