A migrant worker in Kochi, Kerala, abducted a five-year-old girl from her home on Friday. He committed a horrific crime by brutally raping and strangling her to death. The child’s body was found discarded in a sack in a marshy area behind a local market in Aluva on Saturday. The autopsy confirmed the sexual assault and strangulation as the cause of death. The accused has been arrested.
The incident came to light when a complaint was filed on Friday evening and an FIR was registered soon after. The CCTV footage showed that the child was last seen with the laborer. The suspect was apprehended later that night, although he was intoxicated and did not have the child with him.
The victim was the daughter of a migrant couple from Bihar. She went missing from her home on Friday evening. The police found her body abandoned in a sack in a marshy area behind a local market. She had been brutally assaulted and sexually abused.
Initially, the authorities faced difficulties in interrogating the accused on Friday night due to his intoxication. However, he confessed to the crime on Saturday morning, although he also tried to mislead the investigation team.
Local residents informed the police that they had seen the child with the migrant worker near the market area on Friday. The police conducted a thorough search with the help of locals and eventually found the girl’s body.
The area behind the market is secluded and known for being frequented by anti-social elements. Alcohol and drug consumption are prevalent there.
