Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the leader of Telangana Jagruthi, warned the central government on Tuesday. She stated that no trains would run if the bill for 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) isn’t approved.
The BRS leader announced a “Rail Roko” protest on July 17. She demands the President’s approval for the BC reservation bill passed by the Telangana Assembly. She also urged the Revanth Reddy government in Telangana to issue a Government Order (GO) to implement these reservations as per Article 243(D) of the Constitution. Kavitha criticized Rahul Gandhi for not advising the Telangana Chief Minister to issue such a GO, despite carrying the Constitution around the country.
At a press conference in New Delhi, Kavitha said, “We won’t allow a single train to move. Trains from Deccan to Delhi will be halted. This is just the beginning. If the bill isn’t approved, we’ll continue the Rail Roko indefinitely. The 2.5 crore BC population in Telangana will stand against the BJP.” She accused both the BJP and Congress of betraying the BCs and plans to write to all political parties for support.
Kavitha alleged that the Congress-led government only sent the BC reservation bill to the President to avoid responsibility. She criticized Rahul Gandhi, claiming he only showed concern for BCs after Congress lost power in 2014. She noted that Congress-ruled states like Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh haven’t conducted caste censuses.
Kavitha called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is an OBC, to ensure justice for BCs by getting the President’s approval for the Telangana BC reservation bills. She suggested including the Telangana BC bill in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution, like Tamil Nadu’s 69% reservation policy.
