Hyderabad: On Tuesday, BRS leaders urged the government to hold local body elections only after ensuring 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs), following the Kamareddy declaration.
During a press conference, senior leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav expressed concerns about the upcoming cabinet meeting on July 10, where a decision on elections might be made. He criticized the previous Congress government for sending a bill to the Centre as a mere formality, questioning the legality of conducting elections with just a government order.
Yadav emphasized the need for proper reservations, arguing that BCs deserve more than empty promises. He highlighted the lack of attention from the Chief Minister towards the BCs and insisted that elections should only happen after securing the 42% reservation legally.
S Madhusudhana Chary, the Leader of the Opposition in Council, echoed these sentiments. He criticized the Congress for failing to deliver on promises to the BCs during their term. Chary warned that without legal reservations, the Congress would face consequences.
Srinivas Goud noted that while protests and demands were made before the bill reached Delhi, silence has followed its submission. Gangula Kamalakar pointed out the need for a scientific approach in the Assembly regarding this issue.
