A legal aid clinic for transgender people has been set up in Telangana, which is the first of its kind in the state. The clinic is located in Kakatiya Nagar, Habsiguda and was opened by the Telangana State Legal Services Authority. This is the fourth clinic of its kind in India and offers free legal aid services to transgender people.
The clinic provides support in various areas such as legal literacy, access to entitlements and services (including transgender identity cards), and protection and justice in cases of human rights violations. Despite progresses in society, transgender people still face discrimination and violence when accessing public services or inheriting property due to their gender identity. This clinic aims to help transgender people overcome these challenges.
