Telangana’s Health Minister T Harish Rao recently announced on Twitter that the state had achieved 100% institutional deliveries for the year 2021-22. This is thanks to the KCR kits programme, an initiative by the Telangana government. The state has also accomplished other health achievements, such as having the second-lowest percentage of abortions among ANCs, high rates of newborns being breastfed within one hour of birth, and administering the birth dose of hepatitis B vaccination to all babies.

Telangana is also a leader in emergency obstetric and newborn care, with fully operational First Referral Units that provide round-the-clock services. The state has a high distribution rate of ANC registration to estimated pregnancies and low rates of preterm deliveries and low birth weight babies. Additionally, the sex ratio at birth in Telangana is higher than the national average for 2021-22.
