Hyderabad: A new mobile app called TUTEM (Technologies for Urban Transit to Enhance Mobility and Safe Accessibility) is being introduced for people in Hyderabad. It is a joint project by Hyderabad Metro, BITS Pilani-Hyderabad Campus, Hyderabad Police, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Bombay.
The app is designed to help make travel safer, especially for women. It was showcased during a workshop at BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus. Hyderabad Metro Managing Director NVS Reddy said the app will help women reach their destination safely, not just on the metro but also before and after the metro ride.
TUTEM has two parts—a Driver app and a User app. It helps ensure safe travel throughout the entire journey, whether by walking, taking a two-wheeler, car, bus, or auto-rickshaw. If a woman feels unsafe at any point, she can use the app to alert the police and her family members right away.
Professor V Ram Gopal Rao, Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani, said the app includes special features for women who travel at night. He also mentioned that the team is working to bring this app to other cities in India soon.
