Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has already bought 50 lakh metric tons of paddy from farmers and is on track to reach its target of 70 lakh metric tons soon. Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that another 20 lakh tons will be collected over the next two weeks.
During a video meeting with Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and all district Collectors, the Minister reviewed the paddy procurement process across the state. He shared that the government expects a total output of 129.35 lakh metric tons of paddy during this Rabi season.
Last year, by mid-May, the government had procured only 25 lakh metric tons. This year, the figure has already doubled, showing significant improvement in both production and purchase speed.
To handle the large harvest, 8,348 procurement centers have been set up across various districts. These centers are actively buying paddy from farmers to ensure a smooth process.
Minister Uttam emphasized that the Civil Supplies Department is carefully overseeing every step. He made it clear that even paddy with higher moisture levels will be accepted, showing the government’s commitment to supporting farmers.
He urged district Collectors to personally visit procurement centers, identify and fix any problems quickly, and make sure no farmer faces difficulties. Officials must stay alert over the next 10 to 12 days, ensuring transparency and reassuring farmers about the government’s support.
The government aims to complete paddy procurement on time, ensuring fair and efficient service to the farming community.
