Karimnagar: The promise of including Husnabad constituency from Siddipet District into Karimnagar district will be the first test for Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar. He is a well-known political leader in Karimnagar district. However, despite having no party-related obstacles, Prabhakar is technically not a public representative of this district, which could pose a challenge. He was elected as an MLA from Husnabad constituency and later secured a spot in the State cabinet.

Husnabad constituency consists of seven mandals with a population of over three lakhs. Among these, only Chigurumamidi and Saidapur mandals fall under Karimnagar district. Bhimadevarapalli and Elkaturthi mandals are in Hanamkonda district, while Husnabad mandal, Akkannapet, and Koheda mandals are in Siddipet district. Despite being technically associated with Siddipet district, Prabhakar’s political activities are closely linked to Karimnagar district. The Congress state leadership has appointed him as the in-charge of Karimnagar parliamentary constituency, making him responsible for winning the party’s MP seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Karimnagar parliamentary constituency comprises four out of the seven constituencies from Karimnagar district – Karimnagar, Manakondur, Husnabad, and Choppadandi. Two mandals from Husnabad constituency also fall within this district. Party sources suggest that Prabhakar, who is deeply involved in Karimnagar politics, may prefer to become the minister in charge of Karimnagar. To actively participate in Karimnagar’s politics, it is believed that Prabhakar may need to shift his constituency to Karimnagar.

The residents of Husnabad constituency, except for Bhimadevarapalli and Elkaturthi Mandals, have expressed their desire to merge Husnabad with Karimnagar district. Petitions have been submitted to support this merger. Prabhakar, who contested from Husnabad, has also promised the people that he will work towards shifting the constituency to Karimnagar district.
