A major drug smuggling operation has been busted in Hyderabad, exposing a growing network despite the tough stance taken by Telangana Police. Authorities seized a large quantity of ganja (marijuana) in the Uppal area, as confirmed by Excise Joint Commissioner Qureshi on Monday.
Officials discovered 106 kilograms of ganja hidden in a warehouse located in the HCL area of Uppal. The bust happened after investigators received strong leads. Police arrested two individuals connected to the case.
The seized drugs were divided into 56 packets, each weighing 2 kg. The total street value is estimated at around ₹53 lakhs. The arrested suspects have been identified as Katla Vivek Reddy and Madhu Kiran.
Surprisingly, Vivek Reddy worked as an assistant professor at a private engineering college. During questioning, both suspects revealed that a man named Rambabu, believed to be the mastermind, is operating from the Malkangiri region. He is currently absconding, and police are actively searching for him.
According to the investigation, Rambabu supplied the ganja, while the two arrested men handled distribution in Hyderabad and other areas. For each delivery, Rambabu paid them ₹50,000.
Authorities believe that once Rambabu is caught, they’ll learn more about the network. Qureshi also shared that Vivek Reddy already has two criminal cases against him, while Rambabu is wanted in two separate cases in Bhadrachalam.
The smuggled ganja is reportedly packed deep inside the Malkangiri forest, then transported through different routes to Hyderabad, where it is sold. The police continue their efforts to dismantle this illegal trade and bring all those involved to justice.
