Hyderabad is all set to host the 72nd Miss World pageant, kicking off today with a grand opening ceremony at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium. This marks the beginning of a vibrant three-week celebration filled with glamour, tradition, and meaningful causes.
For the first time in its 73-year history, the Miss World pageant is being held in the same country for two years in a row. After last year’s spectacular event in Mumbai, the spotlight now shifts to Telangana. The announcement came earlier this year from Julia Morley, the CEO of Miss World Limited, highlighting the event’s strong focus on community empowerment, cultural diversity, and its core theme—Beauty with a Purpose.
Throughout their stay, contestants will dive deep into Telangana’s rich culture. They’ll travel to historic places like Warangal, Pochampally, Buddhavanam, Yadagirigutta, and Mahabubnagar. In Hyderabad, a special highlight will be a heritage walk through the iconic Charminar and the colorful Laad Bazaar on May 13.
The contestants won’t just explore culture—they’ll also get a glimpse into Telangana’s progress. Visits to AIG Hospitals and the Telangana Police Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGPICCC) are planned, giving them insight into the state’s tourism and safety efforts.
The competition heats up with major events starting May 20, when the Continental Finale takes place. On May 22, the stage at Shilpakala Vedika will host the exciting Talent Finale. One of the most impactful segments, Beauty with a Purpose, is scheduled for May 26, where contestants present their work on social causes.
The journey will reach its peak on May 31, during the dazzling Grand Finale, where the new Miss World 2024 and other titleholders will be crowned. The winners will wrap up their experience with a formal tea and meeting with the Governor and Chief Minister of Telangana at Raj Bhavan on June 2, a date that also marks Telangana State Formation Day.
This year’s Miss World promises not just beauty and entertainment, but a deeper connection to culture, service, and unity.
