Hyderabad – The Congress party has pushed back against BRS leader MLC K Kavitha’s call to delay the upcoming Miss World competition in the city. Speaking on the matter, Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy urged her not to make hasty or politically motivated remarks.

According to Kiran Kumar Reddy, the Telangana State government is not the organizer of the event. It is only helping facilitate the competition, which is being run by a private company, Miss World Ltd. He emphasized that the decision to host the global beauty pageant in Hyderabad was made by the organisers months ago, due to the city’s reputation as the safest city in India.

Kavitha had suggested postponing the event, citing rising tensions between India and Pakistan. In response, Reddy clarified that the state government has no legal power to cancel or delay the event. “Just because you are a politician doesn’t mean you should comment on everything,” he said.

He stressed that the government would cooperate if the organisers themselves decided to delay the event, but noted that no such decision has been made. “Over 105 countries are sending contestants,” he said. “In addition, 300 to 400 delegates and their families are expected to attend. It’s a major international event, and decisions about its schedule lie with the organisers.”

The Congress MP also questioned Kavitha’s understanding of international matters, pointing out that she had studied abroad in the United States. He implied that her recent comments showed a lack of awareness about how global events are planned and managed.

In closing, Reddy said that global confidence in Telangana as a safe and capable host should not be undermined by unnecessary political interference.
