The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Telangana has resulted in the deletion of 73.39 lakh voters from the draft electoral rolls released on Monday, raising concerns about the impact on nearly half of the state’s voter base. The Chief Electoral Officer C Sudarshan Reddy announced that 92 lakh voters will receive notices regarding various discrepancies found during the revision process.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer, the Election Commission has successfully collected 78.30 percent of enumeration forms from a total of 3.38 crore voters. Out of the 3,38,26,448 electors recorded as of June 10, 2026, only 2,64,87,213 voters had submitted their enumeration forms by August 10, 2026, leaving a significant gap in the documentation process.

The breakdown of deleted voters reveals multiple categories of removal. The Election Commission identified 9.22 lakh voters as deceased, while 11.25 lakh were classified as absent or untraceable. The largest category comprised 45.18 lakh voters who had permanently shifted to different locations. Additionally, 6.7 lakh voters were found to be enrolled at multiple places, and 1.02 lakh fell under other miscellaneous categories.

Beyond the deletions, the electoral revision process uncovered additional complications affecting voter records. Approximately 60 lakh voters had anomalies in their electoral rolls that require verification. Another 32 lakh electors remain unmapped, meaning their details could not be linked to the 2002 base roll, creating further administrative challenges for election authorities.

The Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant EROs will serve notices to all affected voters through Booth Level Officers and registered post to their house addresses. This notification process is scheduled to take place from August 17 to 31, giving voters an opportunity to address discrepancies and update their information in the electoral database.

The massive scale of the revision has affected nearly half of Telangana’s voting population, with the combined total of deleted and notice-receiving voters reaching approximately 1.65 crore. The Election Commission continues to work on streamlining the electoral rolls to ensure accuracy and prevent duplication ahead of upcoming elections in the state.
