Prakasam Barrage Floodgates Open Amidst Ongoing Heavy Inflows

VIJAYAWADA: Heavy rains in the upper regions have caused the Prakasam Barrage to reach its full capacity. As a result, authorities have started releasing large amounts of water from the barrage.

On Sunday, officials opened 70 gates of the Prakasam Barrage, releasing 1.18 lakh cusecs of water into the Krishna River. Residents living near the river have been warned to stay alert due to the risk of potential flooding.

At the same time, the Srisailam Reservoir is receiving large inflows of 2.17 lakh cusecs from the upper regions. To manage the situation, six gates have been opened, releasing 1.67 lakh cusecs of water through the spillway. Additionally, 60,000 cusecs of water is being released for power generation through the right and left bank powerhouses.

Authorities have advised people living in low-lying areas along the Krishna River to remain cautious. They are also urged to follow any safety instructions provided in the coming days.
